America Recycles Day is a national day of recognition around the benefits of recycling. Did you know that only 35% of waste in the United States is recycled? And that each person in the United States generates nearly 5 pounds of trash waste every single day? America Recycles Day aims to help increase the percentage of recycled waste and decreased the amount of trash waste produced. By pledging to increase the amount of waste that is recycled, each person can independently decrease their own footprint on our environment.
This year, the Utica Zoo will be holding a recycling event that will not only rid our landfills of harmful, yet recyclable waste but also clean up our community at the same time! We will be collecting old cell phones, used printer cartridges, and all of those political signs littering our front yards, and will properly recycle the phones and printer cartridges to ensure that harmful materials and chemicals do not enter our local landfills, and we will reuse the political signs for events, rather than throw the plastic into the landfill also.
From November 15-November 30, bring your old, broken, unused, or out of date cell phone (along with the battery), used printer cartridges, and political signs (including the stakes), to the Utica Zoo Gift Shop between 10 am and 4 pm every day (except Thanksgiving Day) to be recycled. We are glad to have you join us in our effort to reduce landfill waste and responsibly recycle your waste!
