Environmental Technician 2

Description:

Under the direction of the Superintendent of Buildings, Grounds, and Project Management, provides a variety of maintenance and repair tasks to ensure zoo’s facilities, exhibits, and grounds are safe, clean, and operational. This position also creates a positive first impression and overall welcoming experience for visitor experience.

Essential Duties, Skills, and Responsibilities:

  • Perform general maintenance duties as directed by supervisor.
  • Assist in the design, construction, and modification of exhibits, grounds, buildings, structures, and fences
  • Provide support for special events and rentals as scheduled or requested. This may include affixing lights, moving equipment, staging, parking, and other duties as requested.
  • Aid in clearing the grounds of environmental debris and snow; prepare for and monitor impact of inclement weather
  • Assist Environmental Technicians with projects as requested or assigned
  • Make sure storage areas, workspaces, shop and grounds are neat and orderly
  • Ensure the landscape and pathways are up to visitor standards.
  • Ensure familiarity with duties/tasks checklists: Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Annual
  • Learn correct use and maintenance of radio equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols for a safe staff, visitor, and animal environment
  • Report any safety hazards to supervisor
  • Assist in emergency repairs and maintenance as required.
  • Work collaboratively with all staff members and departments, also participating in meetings.
  • Assure work, equipment, work areas, and self, represent the Zoo in a safe, clean, professional, and orderly manner at all times.
  • Adhere to Zoo, OSHA and other regulatory safety standards, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Able to regularly engage in all physical requirements and lift/carry a minimum of 80 pounds.
  • Able to actively work in inclement weather conditions year-round.

Qualifications & Education:

Education:

  • High school or GED diploma, or equivalent combination of training and/or experience required

Driving Requirements:

  • Must have and maintain a valid New York driver’s license.

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Day shift
  • Some holidays

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Utica, NY 13501: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Compensation and Benefits:

Department: Maintenance

Salary: $16.91/hr.

Job Status: Full-time & Part-time, non-exempt
