Snowshoe Trail FAQ

Snowshoes rentals are $4/hour for each pair rented. This does NOT include admission.

If you have your own snowshoes, feel free to bring them with you to use. If you do this, then you only need to pay for general admission to the zoo!

To minimize the damage to the equipment, we only offer snowshoe rentals if there is at least six inches of snow on the ground.

Our snowshoe trail is a path that winds through the woods from Zebra View Pavilion, up to North Trek Hiking Trail, then up into the woods again before finishing off right near our African Lion habitat.

We only allow snowshoeing to be done on the designated snowshoe trail. Prolonged usage of snowshoes on pavement or inside buildings can damage the snowshoes and the floors they are being used on.

On the snowshoe trail itself, you will be able to see our Canada Lynxes, Mexican Wolves, and Arctic Foxes. However, the rest of the zoo is open and the other animals are fully viewable as well (just not on the snowshoe trail itself). Feel free to visit them before you snowshoe OR after you snowshoe.

All of our snowshoes are organized by size/weight so that you can easily pick the best shoes for you. However, feel free to ask our staff if you need any help.

We have put together a guide for putting on snowshoes (see above OR pick one up when you get here). If you still have trouble putting them on, ask one of our staff members for assistance and they would be happy to help you.

Snowshoes were funded through a generous grant from the Excellus BlueCross BlueShield Community Health Awards.

The Utica Zoo will close at 3pm on 12/31 and will reopen with normal hours on 1/1!
